A look at the Gopher football freshmen

Minnesota landed one of its strongest recruiting classes ever when they inked 24 players during the February signing period. Two of the players are no longer with the program as Maurice Alexander transferred to Eastern Michigan and David Wess landed at Cincinnati. Four true freshmen have played for the Gophers this season. We will look at the Gopher freshmen in a two-part series.

Tony Mortensen talks about senior year and future

6-4, 210 pound quarterback Tony Mortensen of Hutchinson verbally committed to the Gophers in September. The outstanding signal caller is having a solid senior campaign, despite missing four games with a knee injury. Hutchinson (9-3) defeated Farmington 34-18 victory in last Friday's Class 4A state semifinals at the Metrodome. They will play for the Class 4A state championship versus 10-1 Totino Grace tonight. Lydon Murtha talks playoffs and Gophers

6-8, 320-pound tackle Lydon Murtha of Hutchinson was the first player to verbally commit to the Gophers for next season. Prep quarterfinals start Friday
