Marshall and Cincinnati will meet for just the 11th time in school history for a nationally televised game from the Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington on Friday. It will mark the first meeting in Huntington between the Thundering Herd and Bearcats since Cam Henderson coached Marshall in 1937 to the Buckeye Conference championship including a 28-0 shutout of Cincinnati that season.

A majority of the quarterback talk in Cincinnati over the off-season had been about last season's Bearcat starter Ben Mauk and his ongoing battle with the NCAA for an additional year of eligibility. Thursday night however, senior QB Dustin Grutza was the talk of the town, as the Bearcat defeated the Eastern Kentucky Colonels 40-7 in their season opener before a crowd of 26,913 at Nippert Stadium.
