Minor League Notes: A bad night all over

Porous defense cost all three Giants affiliates that played Tuesday as the system was shut out on the night. In Fresno, Bartolome Fortunato did himself in. In San Jose, backup catcher Elio Sarmiento did the damage. For Connecticut, hang an error on the whole club.

Minor League Notebook | May 13

The starting pitchers had no luck except for San Jose. Neither did the bullpens, for that matter. It correlates to three losses in the system Sunday, with San Jose getting the only win. Runners left on base came back to haunt a few of these teams. Augusta is losing ground after that amazing start. What's wrong here? It's Just Another Day in the Minors!

Leone, Sledge join Padres

In a move that is more likely a short-term solution than long-term answer, the Padres will activate third baseman Justin Leone and outfielder Terrmel Sledge for tonight's game in San Francisco. To clear room on the roster, right-handed pitchers Michael Thompson and Brian Sweeney will be sent back to Portland.

Ben Johnson walk-off; Joel Santo a starter

Ben Johnson returned to Portland with a bang – a walk-off game winner. The BayBears were shutout for the fifth time this year. Leo Rosales got the win for Lake Elsinore in his second go-round with the club. Skip Adams had a three-hit night with three RBI's. Joel Santo likes the starting rotation.

Big Ben strikes again

The last time Ben Johnson was a Beaver, he left town on the heels of a Grand Slam August 28th against Las Vegas. Tonight, he picked up where he left off with a game-winning three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth on a full count with two outs.
