Reynolds gets ready for NFL draft

Former Cougar left tackle Matt Reynolds might not be on the team any longer, but that doesn't mean he doesn't closely follow those he once suited up and playing alongside with. While Reynolds has hung up his Cougar jersey, he is now preparing for the next phase of his football career with his eyes fixed on the NFL.

Matt Reynolds' BYU career coming to a close

Left offensive tackle Matt Reynolds has been a constant feature on BYU's offensive line. Cougar fans have grown used to seeing ol' number 70 out there protecting the blindside of three different quarterbacks over the years. Now the big 6-foot-6-inch All-American will play his last regular-season game as a BYU Cougar this Saturday against Hawaii.

The three-step offensive line

The group that has become the biggest surprise of spring camp has been the backup offensive line. With most of the offensive line starters out for spring, the backup offensive line has performed above and beyond expectations against a deep and very talented defense. That, in turn, had led to the offense's overall rapid improvement in spring camp, and it's all due to three steps.

Offensive Line Seeks Improvement

The Cougar offensive front provided a dominant pass-blocking performance against Washington but lacked a bit in their run-blocking. Against Air Force it was somewhat the opposite, as the run-blocking improved but the pass-blocking wasn't up to the high standard they set forth against the Huskies. This week in practice, they're trying to put it all together for Florida State.

Reynolds To Return For Oklahoma?

On Saturday offensive tackle Matt Reynolds was back practicing with the team. Wearing a protective brace over his hand, he practiced in an off-limits mode in which defenders couldn't fully engage him. Reynolds, who started on the offensive line his freshman year, is hopeful he'll be cleared to face the Sooners of Oklahoma.
