Wade LeBlanc pitches well but the Portland offense doesn't awaken until the ninth. Stephen Faris helps his own cause with two runs scored but gets a no-decision with the offense exploding in the eighth. Jeremy McBryde is battered in his worst start of the year. Sawyer Carroll and James Darnell each collect four hits in an offensive explosion.

Mat Latos has another stellar outing, picking up win number six across two leagues while Eric Sogard lights up the airwaves. Cory Luebke is looking for his third weekly honor with another strong outing. Nick Schmidt has been posting zeroes with regularity. Carlos Garcia has been on a mission since the season began in the DSL.

Padres Prospect Report: June 5, 2009

Walter Silva isn't very good but Kyle Blanks bails him out with two homers. Cesar Carrillo gives up three over six. Cory Luebke pitches a complete game, getting help from Logan Forsythe and Colt Morton. All-Star Zach Herr gives up four runs, as does Alexis Lara, after Nick Schmidt tossed blanks. Freddys Henrique is battered across three while Carlos Garcia continues the hot start.

Padres Prospect Report: May 18, 2009

Matt Buschmann has a bounce-back performance and Eliezer Alfonzo provides the magic in the 12th. Cesar Carrillo puts together his finest start – ever – but is not rewarded with a ‘W'. Craig Cooper, however, hits a blast in inning 12 to break a scoreless tie. Jeremy Hefner had a rough outing – the shortest of his career. Mat Latos toys with the Midwest League again and Ali Solis provides the stick.

Darnell, Herr perfect; Weems always on

Nathan Culp is money but the bullpen gets hammered for six runs in the ninth. Felix Carrasco drives in four runs and Beamer Weems extends his on-base streak to 18 games. James Darnell is perfect at the plate and Zach Herr continues to be perfect on the mound.

Brach impressive; Oland suffers many firsts

Stephan Faris keeps San Antonio close but the rest of the bullpen implodes. Yefri Carvajal ties the game late and has a chance to win it. Bryan Oland suffers a blown save and sees two firsts in over a year. Brad Brach has been about as perfect as anyone can be. Andy Parrino provides a lone RBI in a nightcap loss.

Kyle Blanks goes yard, Chad Gaudin debuts, and Jon Ellis picks up a win. Luis Durango has three hits but commits a costly error in a San Antonio loss. Wynn Pelzer posts a quality start and Lance Zawadzki is back in the starting lineup. Fort Wayne has another walk-off win when Matt Clark delivers the go-ahead single in the ninth.

Synopsis: Outfielders Cedric Hunter and Kellen Kulbacki are two of the brighter stars in the Padres organization and a few others could emerge by the end of the year, but there could be some questions about the Missions' defense. On the mound both Cesar Carrillo and Will Inman will look rebound and turn their potential into performance.
