Padres release nine minor leaguers

Peoria, AZ-- The San Diego Padres released nine players from minor league camp on Tuesday. Left-handers Erick Burke, Justin Mattison and Jan Granado, right-handers Ryan Trytten, Matt Varner, Eddie Pena, Jarrett Gardner, and Jamie Baker, and outfielder Adam Bourassa were let go.

Padres MLN: Shaky pitching and defense

Peoria, AZ-- Pitcher Josh Geer dealt three scoreless innings for the Padres, but shaky relief pitching and sloppy play on the field relegated the home team to a 15-7 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers squad.

Gardner shutout; Vandel continues success

Jon Adkins can't record an out. Jonathan Ellis got a spot start in Mobile. Ryan Klatt melts in California. Jarrett Gardner threw blanks for Fort Wayne as Vern Sterry returned to action. Michael Campbell is a tough man to whiff. Geoff Vandel continued his success from the starting rotation.

Gardner, Link throw one-hitter

Jarrett Gardner and Jon Link combine for a one-hit shutout for Fort Wayne. Three relievers work magic in Portland. Mobile gets a win for Dirk Hayhurst. Peter Ciofrone goes slamming for Lake Elsinore. Luke Cannon hits his first professional homer in Eugene. The AZL Padres are the only black mark on a day of winner's. A 17-year old outfielder has room to grown in the DSL.

Brent Carter gemming; Jon Knott seeing triple

Jon Knott triples twice and is still breathing. A controversial ending in Mobile. Brent Carter has been brilliant through the month of June. Jarrett Gardner debuts and starts on the same day his signing is announced. Matt Antonelli continues to show his on base prowess, although a streak is snapped. Dominican third baseman Felix Carrasco leaves the yard for the first time this year.
