It almost figured that at some point before his career was over, the Phillies would acquire left-hander Jamie Moyer. On a couple of separate occasions, the Phillies were close to getting Moyer, either through free agency or a trade, but came up short. Finally, a deal with Seattle brought the Souderton, PA native to Philadelphia.

Batavia third baseman Mike Costanzo is living a dream by playing in the Phillies organization that he's been a fan of all his life. His debut in the pro ranks was a success to say the least. Meanwhile, a couple of disappointed pitchers - Andy Barb and Kyle Kendrick - showed that they deserve to be moved up the ladder in '06.

The Phillies knew they wanted Andy Barb in their organization, but they weren't sure why. Whether they would use him as a catching prospect or a pitching prospect was completely up in the air, but the decision was made to move him to the mound. When Barb finally signed with the Phillies almost a year after the draft, his professional career got underway and the Phillies believe that they may have a good young pitcher coming along.

Those damn Yankees! A rainout that the GCL Yankees didn't have to make up might have cost the GCL Phillies a post-season spot. The Phils finished ½ game behind the Yankees, but had the Yankees had to make up a rained out game and lost, the division would have finished in a dead heat. Instead, the young Phils go home with just some heroic last week bragging rights that almost got them a title. They also leave with some pretty good numbers.
