Suddenly in their worst funk since late May, the Kansas City Royals are a most welcome opponent for the Oakland A's this weekend. The Royals have lost 18 straight games heading into this weekend's three-game series at the Coliseum, including three games to Oakland two weekends ago in Kansas City.

Padres Lose 6-3

A solid outing by Brian Lawrence is wasted in the seventh inning as the Florida Marlins scored four runs, two off Lawrence and two off Jay Witasik to save Dontrelle Willis from taking a loss. The Padres loaded the bases in the ninth but Rondell White took a called third strike to end the game, a 6-3 loss.

Rewind: Padres vs Giants, Game #1

The San Francisco Giants had an eight-game winning streak coming into tonight's game, and the Padres had lost their most recent contest. San Francisco was hoping to expand its already dominating 11-game lead with a victory. Their pitcher, Kirk Rueter, had been on the 15-day disabled list because of an inflammation in his shoulder.
