Anderson and the Olympics: Now it's a race

AS REMARKABLE AS FRESHMAN Jeshua Anderson's track season at Washington State has been, and it has been remarkable, there's been an undercurrent of thought that dominating the Pac-10 doesn't equate to competing seriously for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team. That view changed this past weekend, when Anderson scorched his way to an NCAA title. His chances now, suddenly, seem not so distant.

<B>THE NFL DRAFT is a week away, which means the cottage industry built around speculation and mock drafts is now at a fever pitch. A recent sampling of the mountain of information out there paints a favorable picture for the handful of Cougars who are eligible to be taken, with Calvin Armstrong the odds-on-favorite to be the first Washington State product to have his name called come April 23-24.

Seen & Heard 11/19

I'M NO FOOTBALL EXPERT, but I do like numbers and I do recognize quarterbacks who are better at running than throwing. And what it all tells me about this Saturday's game between Washington and Washington State is that the Cougars' road to Apple Cup redemption will be found on the ground, not in the air.
