Brian Whitaker complete; George Kottaras walk talk

Mike Bumstead has been a gem as a starter for the Portland Beavers. Brian Whitaker waited until the last week of the season to pitch a complete game. Kevin Beavers had a good game but took the loss. George Kottaras has a walking problem and in an interview he is happy about it. David O'Hagan continues his trek back with a full inning of work.

Bumstead into first; Ekstrom ugly debut

Portland moved into first with another strong start from Mike Bumstead. Rene Miniel could not contain the damage as he gave up a homer to the first batter he faced in relief of Brian Whitaker. Sazi Guthrie picked up the win in his second game with Lake Elsinore. Mike Ekstrom debuted and it was ugly. In the good news department, Luke Steidlmayer returned. James Darby struggled through one inning of work. Benjamin Krosschell was dominant again but has yet to see the fruits of his labor.

Joe Gerber, Mike Bumstead to Portland

The San Diego Padres have moved Joe Gerber and Mike Bumstead back from Double-A Mobile to Portland, another bumpy ride – literally. They rented a car and are on their way to New Orleans to meet up with the Beavers.

Bumstead big in win; another prospect retires

One pitch in Portland from Bart Miadich ended the game and it was not the ending they had hoped for. Mike Bumstead gets mixed reviews for his Mobile debut. He gave took three and then gave them away. Chris Tierney suffered his worst loss as a Padre prospect. Fort Wayne split a doubleheader. Another prospect retires.

Whitaker unhittable; Germano in Portland again

Mike Bumstead got the shaft on Thursday. Ramon Vasquez made a rehab stint in Portland and Justin Germano returned to the minors. Brian Whitaker had another eight inning gem, his second in a row. Jon Huber had his worst outing of the year. Brian Burgamy returned to the field. Fort Wayne had their game cancelled.
