Fighting Illini basketball alumni continue to distinguish themselves playing professionally. One who some might have discounted as a pro player is Trent Meacham, yet he had an excellent first year in Europe and has moved to a stronger team. Playing pickup games with his former teammates, he has a first hand idea of their potential.

Any discussion of Illinois's success on the basketball court this season must begin with the leadership and dedication of its seniors. They wanted to go out on a high note, especially after last year's frustrations. One of those seniors is Trent Meacham, the Dayton transfer who played his last home game Sunday.

The years of doubt and insecurity are over. The ankle surgery is healed. What has emerged from the refiner's fire is a fifth year senior with maturity, confidence and a knowledge of how to help the Illini basketball team win games. Trent Meacham has come a long way.

After the first half of Sunday's game, it did not look like the Fighting Illini were going to be extending their season opening winning streak to four despite the efforts of Trent Meacham in the first half. Then after the twelve minute TV timeout, the Illini defense clamped down on the Rattlers and the Illini blew them out with a 32-10 run to close out the 84-63 victory.
