Weis Talks About First Impressions

At the beginning of spring practice last week head coach Charlie Weis said he wasn't ready to talk about individual players. He asked the media to be patient and promised that day would come. The Irish held another practice on Wednesday, and Weis held true to his promise and gave the media some of his early thoughts on some players that are standing out to him so far in spring practice.

Four added to Mobile BayBears

The San Diego Padres promoted four players from their Lake Elsinore Storm squad after the team failed to qualify for the playoffs. Paul McAnulty, Mike Richardson, David Pauley and Natanael Mateo will join the Mobile BayBears as they seek a Southern League Championship.

Multi-homer minors

Xavier Nady hit two homers and had five RBI's but it wasn't enough. Brad Baker and Dale Thayer made their debuts with new teams. Mike Richardson hit two jacks in a win. Travis Chick continues to toy with his competition. Eugene managed just two hits on the night and wasted a strong performance from Danny De La O. Nate Whitney and Luany Sanchez homered, the first time this year that Peoria has had two in the same game.

Padres Minors: Breakout!

Portland lost a close one as a reliever continues to impress. Mobile's game with Carolina was postponed due to rain, but they will play a doubleheader on Monday. The Storm crushed their opposition on Sunday setting season highs for the second time in a week and Fort Wayne swept its doubleheader – featuring a game that had all the runs score via the long ball and a complete game effort, the first by any pitcher in the system.
