Padres Prospect Report: June 5, 2009

Walter Silva isn't very good but Kyle Blanks bails him out with two homers. Cesar Carrillo gives up three over six. Cory Luebke pitches a complete game, getting help from Logan Forsythe and Colt Morton. All-Star Zach Herr gives up four runs, as does Alexis Lara, after Nick Schmidt tossed blanks. Freddys Henrique is battered across three while Carlos Garcia continues the hot start.

Padres Prospect Report: May 22, 2009

Will Inman makes his Triple-A debut and Vince Sinisi ties the game in the bottom of the ninth. Mike Baxter collects five hits and four RBI to help the Missions win a slugfest. Corey Kluber allows all four of his runs in one inning, as the offense struggles mightily. Eduardo Perez makes his system debut while Dan Robertson and Jeudy Valdez do damage from the top of the order.

Padres Prospect Report: May 21, 2009

Chad Huffman goes yard for the sixth time in his last 13 while Mike Ekstrom has been a stud in relief. Ernesto Frieri continues to put in quality outings with another win. Wynn Pelzer provides the Storm with a tremendous start when they need it most. Stiven Osuna posts shutout ball while Dan Robertson and Jaff Decker pace the offense.

San Antonio Missions Hitter of the Year

Summary: The Missions hit .269/354/.399 as a team, which is very good considering that the team plays in the PETCO Park of the Texas League. When the wind is blowing in, which it is most nights, a batter needs to have some serious power to yank one out.

Frieri fine in Double-A; Antonelli hitting

Matt Antonelli's triple is key while Justin Germano struggles. Ernesto Frieri made his first Double-A start and made it count. Jeremy Hefner tosses six hitless innings but the Wizards lose. Jeudy Valdez homers but the bullpen falters again in Eugene. Jose DePaula and Colin Lynch have rough outings.

Edwin Moreno didn't want to play the reindeer games. It was his only hit, but Colt Morton made it count. Javis Diaz provided magic again in Lake Elsinore. Anthony Contreras had a night to remember for the Wizards. Derek Shunk comes through in the clutch for Eugene. Andrew Albers debuts in the desert. Stalyn Valdez gets his first after five losses.

Padres sign Tomko; Hampson optioned

The San Diego Padres today agreed to terms on a contract with right-handed pitcher Brett Tomko. The club also optioned left-handed pitcher Justin Hampson to Triple-A Portland. Additionally, San Diego announced catcher Colt Morton has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Double-A San Antonio.

Nick Hundley comes through – twice. Mike Ekstrom provides relief in a big spot. Brian Joynt continues to hit and Cesar Carrillo is back on the bump. Luis Durango accounts for four runs but the Wizards lose. Tom Davis is pummeled early and often. Chase Williams has an impact in an AZL Padres win. Rafeal Arias has been the man with inherited runners in the DSL.
