Baltzer stresses import; practice goes inside

PULLMAN -- Chris Baltzer, a WSU senior linebacker, was racking his mind trying to figure out a way to impress upon his younger teammates the importance of the Apple Cup. He presumably captured the undivided attention of his audience prior to Monday's practice when he recalled how some wackos responded to WSU's 2003 loss -- a game the Cougs led for all but 70 seconds.

Practice report: Good news, bad w/ injuries

PULLMAN -- Cougar senior linebacker Chris Baltzer's career has come to an end. He caught a toe on the Roger's Field practice turf and tore an ACL. Meanwhile, running back DeMaundray Woolridge, bothered by a deep thigh bruise suffered at Auburn, missed his second straight day of practice and is questionable for Saturday's Pac-10 opener at Stanford. But news isn't all bad on the health front.

Fall Camp: Day 13

PULLMAN -- The starting Cougar linebackers have 47 starts between them. But it is quantity, not quality, that concerns LBs coach Leon Burtnett. A trio of injuries have robbed the unit of the depth this fall, although one key contributor has recently returned to the field. The progress of the unit has been consistent over camp to date, but depth concerns are never far from the Burtnett's thoughts.

All I eat, sleep and dream about these days is Cougar football!! What about you?!
