Oliver Purnell hasn't had it easy since he took over as head coach of DePaul in April of 2010. Purnell and his Blue Demon squad suffered through another losing season (7-23, 1-17), while taking their lumps in the highly competitive Big East. However, along the way, Purnell saw his team make strides and he is ready for a fresh start.

With the season opener 11 days away, every team has a level of optimism that this is the year they will do big things. But when you have a new coach, that optimism only intensifies. That will be the case when DePaul opens their season against Chicago State on November 14th.

The NCAA Conference Commissioners recently voted unanimously to propose getting rid of the July evaluation period from the men's basketball recruiting calendar. Why would they make such a decision and what benefit would come from it?
