Alabama Coach Nick Saban announced Monday that two returning starters from 2006 will not be in uniform when the Crimson Tide opens the season Saturday night hosting Western Carolina. The two suspended players are not those who had been involved in well-publicized off-the-field incidents during the summer.

Alabama might not have all its horses healthy and ready to run when Alabama hosts Auburn at Bryant-Denny Stadium this Saturday at 2:30 p.m., but then again that would be nothing new. And this season the injury situations appear better than the two previous.

Alabama Head Coach Mike Shula said that safety Rashad Johnson has "an outside chance" to play in Saturday's game, leaving only the slightest hope that Bama's best kick coverage man and starter at safety for four games this season will be able to play. Johnson had 26 tackles and forced two fumbles this season.

JaMarcus Russell has had good games against Alabama before – last year completing 16 of 30 passes for 29 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions – and he was at it again Saturday in LSU's 28-14 victory over Alabama with 207 yards on 18 of 21 (.857 PCT) passing to go with 36 rushing yards.
