Nine extra base hits for Portland is just enough to get it done. San Antonio comes back from a nine-run deficit and loses in extras. Ernesto Frieri made his second straight start but the Storm offense managed just two hits. Andrew Parrino bangs out four hits and Derek McDaid picks up the Wizards win.

Headley's magical six; Miller solid again

Chase Headley reached base six times on Thursday and capped off his night by scoring the game-winner. Steve Garrison was pulled early with a high pitch count and Lee Gwaltney was hammered in his debut. Drew Miller had another wonderful outing, but the pen would not hold. Three players collect multiple extra base hits – but it wasn't enough for Fort Wayne.

Gwaltney's Road to Recovery

The road to recovery for Lee Gwaltney recently took an unexpected turn. More or less sidelined since late last season recovering from a torn labrum and the extenuating shoulder surgery as a result of it, the right-hander has appeared in just three games with the Mesa Cubs of the Arizona Rookie League.

Gwaltney Update; Bartosh Sighting

Like many Cubs minor league pitchers in 2005, Lee Gwaltney's season was cut short due to injury. A sixth-round draft pick by the Phillies in 2002, Gwaltney had joined the Cubs late in Spring Training and worked his way into a starter's role at Class-A Peoria in mid-April before moving up to Daytona and eventually on to Double-A.
