Last night things were looking bleak for the Vanderbilt Commodores in Chicago. Vandy's sparkling undefeated record was in danger of getting an ugly blemish. The Commodores trailed much of the first half and fell behind by as many as 18 in the second half. That's when two backups took charge and gave the Commodores a chance to pick up their tenth win of the season.

The 6 a.m. practices didn't do the trick. So Kevin Stallings decided to shake up the starting lineup. On the brink of a five-game losing streak, Vanderbilt awoke from its recent funk and spanked Ole Miss 73-51 on Saturday as Mario Moore and Dawid Przybyszewski found themselves in reserve roles.

Mario Moore exploded for 19 points and Jason Holwerda added a career-high 17, as Vanderbilt racked up an easy 87-65 win Sunday over nearby Tennessee State. The Commodores dropped in 14 three-pointers in the process of improving to 2-0. VandyMania's <B>Bill Trocchi</b> provides this account.

The Vanderbilt Commodores opened the 2004-05 season with a convincing 82-54 exhibition win over the University of Panamericana of Mexico, as five players scored in double figures for the home team. Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stalling used the game as a developmental tool, playing freshmen liberally throughout the contest. The freshmen responded with solid performances in their introduction to college basketball.
