The Arizona Diamondbacks placed Carlos Quentin on the 15-day disabled list with a pulled right hamstring. Replacing Quentin on the active roster is none other than Justin Upton, the #1 overall draft pick of 2005.
Rather than use Chad Tracy or Mark Reynolds in the outfield, where they each have extensive experience, Bob Melvin decided to put Conor Jackson in left field for just the second time in his major league career. Jeff DaVanon was also activated from the 60-day DL, giving the team another veteran option in the outfield for late inning defensive substitutions when Jackson plays.
