Walker Ashley to become a Minnesota Gopher

Walker Ashley, a 6-foot-5, 285-pound defensive lineman from Eden Prairie (MN) High, will finally become a member of the Minnesota Gopher football team. Ashley, who was named Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year, will sit out the 2007-08 season and have three years of eligibility remaining.

DT Walker Ashley to Enroll at USC ... Again

Walker Ashley, a 6-foot-5 defensive tackle from Eden Prairie (MN) High, has decided that he will play at USC next season, according to sources close to the situation. Ashley had told GoldenSports.net in August that he would enroll at Minnesota in January and play the 2006 season. Ashley, who picked USC over the Gophers in high school, was unable to be academically certified by the NCAA Clearinghouse as a freshman and returned to Minnesota, where he had been working out with a personal trainer.

Walker Ashley Could Be Done at USC

Freshman defensive tackle Walker Ashley, who picked USC over the Gophers, is considered a "long shot" to be academically certified by the NCAA Clearinghouse, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. Under NCAA rules, Ashley, a prep All-American from Eden Prairie, will be allowed to practice for two weeks without Clearinghouse approval. If he does not get certification, he cannot attend school and must sit out the season.
