McGowan Working His Way Back

Dustin McGowan showed so much promise. The former first rounder was once considered the Blue Jays top prospect in their farm system. McGowan's rookie season was in 2007 when he posted a decent 12-10 record with an ERA of 4.08, solidifying his spot as a potential number two starter. Injuries plagued the right-hander starting in 2008 and he's been fighting his way back ever since.

A long and difficult season for Dustin McGowan ended last week after the organization liked what it saw from the young right-hander and pulled him out of the Arizona Fall League after pitching a total of 130 innings this year, but with a lot of stress as well.

Dustin McGowan had another solid outing on Friday in Arizona, striking out five in four innings, while allowed just one walk. Jordan DeJong and Tracy Thorpe also made appearances on the mound, and combined to allow one hit, in three innings, while fanning four batters. Meanwhile, in Mexico, Lee Gronkiewicz tossed a strong inning.

Wednesday was a busy day for Jays players playing in the Arizona, Hawaii and Mexican Leagues. Dustin McGowan had a solid start for Phoenix, while Chip Cannon and Ryan Klosterman combined for three hits on the offensive end. Tracy Thorpe also made an appearance. Both Eric Nielsen and Ryan Patterson were in the starting lineup in Hawaii, while Lee Gronkiewicz made his winter league debut in Mexico.
