HOOPS: Beavs left searching for answers

THE THREE-POINTER. The Beavs couldn't defend it well enough in the 82-63 loss to Oregon. The Ducks hit a season high 13 treys as Oregon State (9-16, 4-10 Pac-10) lost their fourth straight. And with four games remaining in the regular season, there is now one big question facing the Beavs.

HOOPS: Another furious comeback falls shy

OH, WHY THE HECK NOT. It's Oregon State on the hardcourt, after all, and this is what they do. Dig a big hole. Stage a furious rally. But the depth and breadth of the hole, in the end, proves too much. And so, another heartbreaker, this one a 63-59 loss to Oregon, and another night of what-ifs for head man Craig Robinson. Still, watching Lathen Wallace lead the Beavs back, it was a sight to see.

HOOPS: Beavs let comeback win get away

THEY HAD IT. And then they lost it. Oregon State had scratched, fought and clawed all the way back from 17 points down against UCLA in the second half and even took a two point lead with just a couple minutes to play. But the Beavs did not score again, and fell 62-57 at home. Afterwards, the Beavers' head man was frustrated, and said changes are coming.

No CBI title this year for Beavs

IT STARTED OUT well for Oregon State, running out to a 5-0 lead in the opening round of the CBI Tournament. But sloppy play and turnovers soon called an end to that. Boston U forged a lead and then blew out the Beavers at Gill Coliseum, building their first half lead to as many as 21 points. From then on in the 96-78 loss, the outcome was never in doubt.

Beavs' upset bid falls short at Pauley

OREGON STATE HAD momentum in their corner. But after nearly erasing all of a 10-point halftime deficit, and climbing to within a single point with about five minutes remaining, UCLA ripped off five quick points. OSU played catch-up the rest of the way, unable to climb over the final hurdles in a 65-56 loss on the hardcourt at Pauley Pavilion.

HOOPS: Beavs stun Ducks 64-57

OMARI JOHNSON DIDN'T take the bait. After forcing another Oregon turnover, Johnson slowed it down rather than try for a fast break deuce. And therein lies the reason the Beavs came away with a crossroads 64-57 victory Sunday night over in-state rival and Pac-10 leading Oregon -- the Beavs imposed their pace of play on the road. And Oregon, in the end, couldn't keep up.

HOOPS: Beavs pull away to even record at 5-5

CRAIG ROBINSON NEEDED this one to play out like it did. Oh, it was far from perfect, but after some recent and disheartening losses, the Beavs' second year head man needed his team to put on a second-half surge -- and to cruise to a double digit victory. And that was just what the Beavs did Saturday night at home in the 76-62 win over Mississippi Valley State.

Loss sets up decisive Game 3 finale for Beavs

OREGON STATE CERTAINLY enjoyed a home court advantage for the first three games of the College Basketball Invitational. That was just as certainly not the case in Game 2 of the tournament finals as the Beavs lost 70-63 to UTEP on Wednesday. With the series now tied 1-1, all eyes will be on Friday's tilt in El Paso -- one game to decide it all.
