Padres claim Wilson, make roster moves

The San Diego Padres claimed infielder Josh Wilson off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Additionally the club has recalled left-handed pitcher Joe Thatcher from Triple-A Portland, optioned right-handed pitcher Edwin Moreno to Portland, selected right-handed pitcher Greg Burke from Portland and requested waivers for the purpose of unconditional release on right-handed pitcher Duaner Sanchez.

The Diamondbacks fired manager Bob Melvin and hitting coach Rick Schu on Thursday night, after which pitching coach Bryan Price resigned. Director of player development A.J. Hinch will be announced as the manager at a Friday afternoon press conference, a source with knowledge of the hiring said Thursday night.
