Rick Renteria is highly regarded as a manager in the San Diego Padres' system. His reward came this past week, named the Triple-A manager in Portland. But, this past season with the Lake Elsinore Storm he worked with the speed of Yordany Ramirez, the power of Nic Crosta, the defense of Chase Headley and Skip Adams and the general small ball on a team that wasn't particularly quick.

Paul McAnulty walk-off. Lake Elsinore continues its torrid space with a win on the road to take a 1-0 lead over High Desert. Matt Hagen and Skip Adams led the assault. Fort Wayne is 0-5 over the last three seasons in the playoffs, losing at home on Wednesday. The pitching, normally a strength, left the Wizards on this day. The season ends in Eugene with Michael Campbell making a statement.

Dewon Brazelton's impressive run ends and he was the offense in Portland. Mike Ekstrom was tagged and infielder Julius Matos had mop-up but forgot the bucket. Skip Adams went slamming and Nick Hundley secured his first California League homer. The Emeralds had as many hits as errors. Cedric Hunter pushed his on base streak to 36 games but four errors led to six unearned runs and a loss.

Stephen Andrade seems to be positioning himself for a run at the big league club. The Mobile BayBears will conclude a suspended game on Sunday. Lake Elsinore put up a ten spot and lost. Greg Burke pitched well but the Fort Wayne offense was stagnant. Orlando Lara had one of the finest outings of the year for Eugene but it took extras for a win to be secured.

Three more homers for the minor league leading Portland Beavers. Jim Brower is saving in the PCL. Sean Thompson gives up two solo bombs but it is the four unearned runs that haunt. Skip Adams drives in two without a hit. Joel Santo picks up the win, tossing scoreless ball. A spot start for Nathan Staggs earns him a loss.

Michel Hernandez has been gunning down runners quite often lately. Tim Redding will pitch in Portland on Tuesday. Four hits and four runs are the story for Jose Oyervidez. Jared Wells' success continues in a no-decision. Skip Adams gets redemption in the ninth. Geivy Garcia provides solid relief but Fort Wayne can't secure the win.

Portland readies itself for the playoffs with a loss. Mobile gets a win on its way to the playoffs and Colt Morton homered in his Southern League debut. Lake Elsinore bows out of the race when the competition gets hot. The Fort Wayne Wizards powered its way into the playoffs with 15 wins in 20 games. Skip Adams made the most of the season finale and Leo Rosales came up big in the end.
