One of the strengths for the Knights entering the 2008 season was their defensive backfield made up of four-year starters Joe Burnett, Johnell Neal, Sha'reff Rashad, and Jason Venson. The Knights will have to replace all four starters in 2009 and will do so with younger, inexperienced guys.

Joe Burnett has been the epitome of a role-model student athlete during his tenure at UCF and has been a huge burst of energy for the Knights during a slow start to the season. In Saturday's loss to Miami, Burnett made a statement by scoring a touchdown via kickoff return for UCF, but also made a gesture to Miami's fans while on the sideline.

As the Knights begin to embark on their 2008 season, there are some potential question marks mixed in with a lot of bright spots. However, if there is one constant amongst UCF's team this year, it is seemingly UCF's secondary, which ranks amongst one of the brightest units in the conference, and potentially the nation.

It has already been noted that UCF is expected to have a stellar defense, but the one group that truly stands out is the Knights' secondary, which is loaded with experience. Four seniors make up the starting secondary and the unit should be amongst the best in the nation.
