Every Cardinal player parent was pigskin-proud this past week as the Cardinal absolutely aced its semi-final exams in Los Angeles last weekend while dismantling "that think tank on Figueroa". No grade inflation here whatsoever - Dave Fowkes tells it like it is after one of the historic wins in school history. Now we need to maintain that superb GPA against California in the Big Game. The Cardinal has an opportunity to "kick it up a notch" with regard to the 2009 season as the team travels south to try and prove it can win another big game on the road against an outstanding Pac-10 opponent, certain to be ready for this game. It will take some superb performances if the Card is to come away with another win over the Trojans.

Stanford is now two-thirds of the way through the '09 campaign. The Cardinal sits at 5-3 for the season and is undefeated at home. Just one win away from a post-season bowl appearance, the focus is nevertheless on "one tough game at a time" as the Cardinal heads with justified confidence into a challenging final stretch. Time to review the performance of the Cardinal through the first eight games.

Big plays, aggressive defense and special teams heroics marked an impressive win for Stanford in the third-annual "Bill Walsh Legacy Game". The spirited if outmanned Spartans came to play, but couldn't withstand a continuous onslaught of pigskin play-making by the Cardinal, who on put the "special" in "special teams" and pulled away from the sinister siblings of the South Bay in a solid 42-17 win.
