After an up and down year in 2008, which included missing much of spring practice with an injury, senior quarterback Kyle Reed is battling for the starting spot this year. Coming out of this spring session healthy, he talks about keeping on track for the upcoming season, including the progress he's made under new QB coach Terry Malley.
Transfer Kyle Reed threw two touchdowns in the second half, including one with eight seconds left to play, to lift San Jose State to a 13-10 victory on Saturday over UC Davis in the season opener for both teams. Reed, who came over from California, was the third quarterback used by Spartans' coach Dick Tomey. He finished with 132 yards on 14-of-18 passing.

The Bears entered their second week of spring practice on Monday as the returning Pac 10 champions continued to sharpen their skills and test the mettle of their Class of 2006 redshirt frosh.
One of the more interesting battles coming into the 2007 spring camp is the fight for the #2 slot at quarterback and along with it, the best shot at challenging incumbent qb Nate Longshore for the starting nod next season.
