Lyle Overbay Returns to the Desert

The Arizona Diamondbacks signed free-agent first baseman and former D-back Lyle Overbay after placing Xavier Nady on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left hand. Overbay will split time with rookie Paul Goldschmidt at first base.

Overbay remains in batting funk

First baseman Lyle Overbay has gone 1-for-8 to extend a 4-for-37 slump. Overbay is batting .230 with seven home runs and 35 RBI. He had a brief flash from July 3 through July 17 when he went 14-for-38 at the plate. He told's George Von Benko that he made some batting adjustments, but he has fallen back into a funk.
