Torres Ready for New Role

With The Trade of closer Mike Gonzalez to Atlanta. Pittsburgh will plug veteran right-hander Salomon Torres into the closers role. Torres posted a 3-6 mark last year with a 3.28 ERA. Torres filled the closers spot in September and October when Gonzalez was injured and posted 12 saves down the stretch. PirateDugout.com's George Von Benko spoke recently with Torres.

Pirates relief ace Salomon Torres picked up his eighth consecutive save Friday night - shutting down the New York Mets. Torres leads the majors with 88 relief appearances and has a 1.20 ERA in 31 games since the All-Star break.
