The Giants continued their aggressive ways at the trade deadline, dealing a top outfield prospect in Thomas Neal for veteran shortstop Orlando Cabrera. The Giants say Cabrera's experience makes the exchange worthwhile. Speaking to reporters Sunday, manager Bruce Bochy said Cabrera "is a proven winner." Neal becomes the second top ten Giants prospect to be dealt for veteran help in the last week.

The Oakland A's started spring with a crowded major league camp, with 63 players on-hand, the most since Billy Martin brought 80 players to camp in 1982. While only 25 of those players will break camp with the team, there are more who are likely to be key cogs for the A's over the next few years. On Monday, the Chicago White Sox traded right-hander Jon Garland to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for Gold-Glove shortstop Orlando Cabrera. Garland, an 18-game winner in the two previous seasons, struggled through a down year in 2007. Yet in a weak pitching market this offseason, the acquisition of the 28-year-old solidifies the Angels' starting rotation headed into 2008.
