Gonzo to Lead World Team in Futures Game

Twelve-time National League All-Star catcher Mike Piazza will lead the U.S. Team against the World Team, which will be managed by five-time N.L. All-Star and former Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Luis Gonzalez, in the 2011 XM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, July 10th at Chase Field in Arizona.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have rid themselves of Jon Garland's ill-advised contract by dealing him to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a player-to-be-named-later. The veteran pitcher compiled a 5.35 ERA at Chase Field and figures to fare better in the friendlier confines of Dodger Stadium.

Hester Becomes The Latest Impact Rookie

Trent Oeltjen singled in his first big league at-bat and homered later in the game. Gerardo Parra homered in his first major league at bat. Clay Zavada won his big league debut and did not allow an earned run until his 20th outing. Now John Hester is the latest Arizona Diamondbacks rookie to excel in his major league debut, as he provided a pinch-hit homer in Friday's 14-7 rout of the Astros.
