The Arizona Diamondbacks have rid themselves of Jon Garland's ill-advised contract by dealing him to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a player-to-be-named-later. The veteran pitcher compiled a 5.35 ERA at Chase Field and figures to fare better in the friendlier confines of Dodger Stadium.

Trent Oeltjen singled in his first big league at-bat and homered later in the game. Gerardo Parra homered in his first major league at bat. Clay Zavada won his big league debut and did not allow an earned run until his 20th outing. Now John Hester is the latest Arizona Diamondbacks rookie to excel in his major league debut, as he provided a pinch-hit homer in Friday's 14-7 rout of the Astros.

The Florida Marlins have suffered two devastating losses with the departures of Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera. The Fish are in retooling mode, but promising young prospects will make the transition easier. After all, the Marlins finished last season with a 71-91 record, good for last place in the NL East.
