Mississippi State signee Matt Lea threw a one-hitter for six innings yesterday against a team from the Florence, Alabama area that was made up mostly of players that have signed with colleges. Included is a video of his sixth and final inning of work.

During his Thursday morning teleconference, Coach Polk talked about many things, including upcoming opponent LSU, why his team has struggled to make the SEC Tournament the last two years, the potential of his team's young pitchers, how many teams he feels deserve to make it to the NCAA Regionals, and his team's chances of making it to the NCAA Regionals if they don't make it to the SEC Tournament.

As in the past, we at Gene's Page - and, now, also Dawgs' Bite - have done a four-part series with the Mississippi State baseball coaches where they discuss the position players they coached during the fall practice and where each of their players are currently projected depth chart wise for the upcoming season. Assistant baseball coach Russ McNickle, who primarily coaches the pitchers, will discuss that position in the fourth and final part of the four-part series.

Mississippi State football has endured its share of troubles the past few years. With Coach Sylvester Croom now at the helm, it is obvious that things are on the upswing, and in a big way. Men's basketball is competing for championships. Baseball is having an outstanding recruiting year. Men's golf has commitments from two of the nation's best. Soccer and volleyball show improvement.
