Getting To Know Ronnie Merrill, Rule 5 Pick

During the Winter Meetings, the Oakland A's bypassed selecting any players in the major league portion of the Rule 5 draft. However, they did add to their minor league system by drafting four players in the minor league portion. One of those players was SS Ronnie Merrill, who comes to the A's from the San Diego Padres organization. We caught up with Merrill to get his reaction to joining the A's.

Moves in Mobile

The San Diego Padres have sent shortstop Ronnie Merrill to Triple-A Portland, brought back Luis Cruz from the Mexican League and have added Dirk Hayhurst to Mobile from Single-A Lake Elsinore.

No Jekyll here – Chris Oxspring was on target. Ronnie Merrill drove in a season high four and is happy to talk about it. The Strom got their hits but Eddie Bonine was hit hard. Sean Kazmar is hitting the cover off the ball and had two of the four hits for Fort Wayne. Tim Turner is showing some juice to his bat and is off to a hot start in Eugene. The Portland Beavers lost a game they had plenty of chances in, getting edged 5-4 by Sacramento. Sacramento leads the series 2-1.<br><br> The Mobile BayBears were smacked around on Friday, losing to Birmingham 8-1. They remain up two games to one in the best of five series.
