2005-06 Honor Roll: KC Corkery

Stanford Athletics events on campus were memorable once again in 2005-06, but this spring finished with a very special dual-hosting of the men's and women's NCAA tennis championships. Those two weeks in May, we watched a fantastic flourish to finish the senior season and Cardinal career of KC Corkery, fighting injury and top opponents. We announce him today as our 10th and final Honor Roll winner.

KC Corkery Reflects at the End

Sunday was the swan song for Stanford senior KC Corkery, who lost to #14-ranked Somdev Devvarman of Virginia in the Men's NCAA Tennis singles semifinals: 4-6, 7-5, 3-6. Both players talked afterward about the match and what turned in the third set. The pensive Cardinal also reflected upon the end of his college career, the run he had this week, and what lies ahead for him after graduation.

Senior KC Corkery on Friday did something he had never achieved in his college career - advance past the Sweet 16 in the NCAA singles tournament. Bootleg Video: KC Corkery

Stanford Men's Tennis freshman Matt Bruch went down to a big server earlier today, while senior KC Corkery pulled off an upset in defeating #15-ranked Virginia Commonwealth junior Arnaud Lecloerec. Corkery's win was all the more impressive considering the ease with which he won, one day after he battled mightily with an ongoing back injury. The smiling senior talked with us afterward.
