METAIRIE, La. – Players that are signed as minor league free agents each off-season aren't expected to lead their league – let alone baseball as a whole – in hitting. Josh Kroeger, a 24-year-old outfielder picked up by the Cubs last December, was the exception to the rule for much of the first half this season.

OF Josh Kroeger and LHP Geoffrey Jones both put together all-star calibur first halves at Double-A Tennessee, even if neither will be able to participate in the Southern League's annual mid-summer event. Both were promoted to Triple-A Iowa Wednesday.

KODAK, Tenn. – Josh Kroeger signed with the Chicago Cubs as a minor league free agent and arrived in Double-A ball knowing that he was debuting for a new team. Kroeger has certainly made the most out of first impressions by leading his team (and league) in hitting and earning significant praise from his manager.
