Emeralds shutout Hawks in 1-0 nail biter

EUGENE - When Rolando Valdez blew a fastball past Deryck Lewis to end the game Friday night, the Eugene Emeralds received a standing ovation from the roaring 3,475 in attendance at Civic Stadium. They had just been treated to a 1-0 shutout of the Boise Hawks at the hands of their hometown team.

Colt Morton mashes; Wade LeBlanc debut a "W"

Dave Matranga belts a homer and leads the offense. Vince Sinisi sparkles and is the catalyst for a Mobile win. Three homers for Lake Elsinore, including one from Colt Morton. Javis Diaz' on base prowess was on display as he reached base six times. Wade LeBlanc debuts and Mike Epping keeps scoring runs as the Ems put up double-digits again. Yesid Salazar pitches well while Pablo Menchaca did not.

Sanchez awesome for Eugene; Sledge hits two

Terrmel Sledge slugged two, including a walk-off. Joey Gomes knocks in four. Josh Geer pushes his streak to 32 innings when finally the scoreless run is snapped on a solo homer. Eugene starts off their season with a win, pounding out 11 runs and 18 hits with Luany Sanchez going 5-for-5 and Brooks Dunn pitching well over three frames.

Seth Johnston extra; Luany Sanchez debut

Portland hitters continue to struggle. There were some positives to Luany Sanchez' debut in a Mobile loss. Fort Wayne was the sole place that showed some excitement with Seth Johnston hitting the gaps, Brandon Higelin pitching well and a debut from Nic Crosta that saved a run.
