As a pitcher in Class AA ball for the fourth straight season a year ago, Geoff Jones had seen all that level had to offer. The left-hander as such put together his finest stint to date, posting a 1.02 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 44-plus innings. Jones is now trying to establish the same rhythm and confidence at the Triple-A level that he had then.

Sidearm southpaw Geoffrey Jones was promoted to Triple-A for the first time in his career last week after posting a microscopic 0.36 ERA and .151 average against in 23 relief appearances for Double-A Tennessee. The 27-year-old left-hander, who picked up the nickname "Big Nasty" while with the Smokies, garnered All-Star honors for his first-half performance.

OF Josh Kroeger and LHP Geoffrey Jones both put together all-star calibur first halves at Double-A Tennessee, even if neither will be able to participate in the Southern League's annual mid-summer event. Both were promoted to Triple-A Iowa Wednesday.

The San Diego Padres recently signed left-handed pitcher Erick Burke, formerly of the Philadelphia Phillies organization. They also re-signed left-handed reliever Geoffrey Jones who wanted to test the free agent waters before deciding to return. On the foreign affairs front, the team has kept their eye on one Australian prospect in hopes of luring him to the states when he is eligible.
