The Cubs' Triple-A roster has taken on a different shape with players coming and going. Two players were demoted this week; one player was released while one retired; one joined the team as a minor league free agent, and two returned from the disabled list.

Sidearm southpaw Geoffrey Jones was promoted to Triple-A for the first time in his career last week after posting a microscopic 0.36 ERA and .151 average against in 23 relief appearances for Double-A Tennessee. The 27-year-old left-hander, who picked up the nickname "Big Nasty" while with the Smokies, garnered All-Star honors for his first-half performance.

Padres stockpiling lefties on the farm

The San Diego Padres recently signed left-handed pitcher Erick Burke, formerly of the Philadelphia Phillies organization. They also re-signed left-handed reliever Geoffrey Jones who wanted to test the free agent waters before deciding to return. On the foreign affairs front, the team has kept their eye on one Australian prospect in hopes of luring him to the states when he is eligible.
