TAMPA, FL - Jonathan Poterson played sparingly in Staten Island last season. And while he appears to be a man on a mission in camp this Spring, reporting to camp ten pounds lighter and looking much more athletic, it was an objective of his that he sought out back in the tail-end of the 2006 NY-Penn League season.

The 2006 season was a disappointing one for Jon Poterson. After returning to Staten Island, he appeared in just 24 games and hit .162 during the regular season. But he finished with a strong August and believes he is carrying more positives than negatives into the offseason.

The Staten Island Yankees opened their season in Brooklyn on Tuesday, returning to defend their 2005 NY-Penn League Championship. Unfortunately, the season opener also saw 2004 first-round pick Jon Poterson returning to Staten Island, after a demotion from Low-A Charleston.
