The University of Minnesota men's basketball program today announced that Trevor Mbakwe will remain at Minnesota for the upcoming basketball season. Mbakwe was recently granted a sixth year of eligibility by the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Minnesota senior forward Trevor Mbakwe is of 22 players to receive an invitation by USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team Committee to attend the 2011 USA Basketball Men's World University Games Team training camp July 29 through Aug. 7. The last Gopher to play for Team USA at the World University Games was Vincent Grier following the 2004-05 season.

The second week of the Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League starts Monday. El-Amin Fish House, the two-time defending champions, lost for the first time since the 2007 championship game, leaving just two undefeated teams. There is a full week of action before the league takes off next Monday and Tuesday for the 4th of July.

University of Minnesota director of athletics Joel Maturi announced Monday that junior forward Trevor Mbakwe will not play for the Golden Gopher basketball team until his pending legal matter has been resolved in a satisfactory manner. Minnesota is ranked #18 in the ESPN/USA Today and 25th in the AP preseason basketball poll and returns their top nine scorers from last season.
