USC Second Half Surge Knocks Out Dawgs 68-51

Like many fights, the knockout blow came late in the match, but the Gamecocks laid out the Hairy Dawgs 68-51 and regained their winning momentum going into the SEC tournament. After two tough losses to Vanderbilt and Tennessee, USC needed to regain its mojo for post-season play, and the last place Dawgs were just the ticket to accomplish that. Devan Downey led USC with 23 points and 8 assists.

Mike Holmes Makes the Grade

South Carolina head coach Dave Odom announced today that 2007 South Carolina Mr. Basketball Mike Holmes has been admitted to South Carolina and will play basketball for the Gamecocks this season. Holmes was ranked as the #24 power forward in the country by, and was a four star recruit.

On an evening when the Knicks' Renaldo Balkman, the ghost of what could have been, was recording 13 points and 12 rebounds against the Hawks in Atlanta, and the current Gamecock team was struggling to a disappointing 52-61 loss to LSU in Baton Rouge, the hope for the future was on the USC home floor at the South Carolina High School State Basketball Championships, played at the Colonial Center.
