It's a rare doubleheader for Thundering Herd fans on Saturday, November 29. But first, Saturday, ODU will face Donnie Jones' team at 11:30 a.m., followed by football vs. TU at 3:30 p.m.

Marshall's defense made the first half plays, and Mark Cann led the Herd to a touchdown on a 99-yard, eight minute drive to send Rice and the Herd to the locker room tied 7-7 at half. Right from the start, MU was struggling. A new Marco outfit was met with an uneven response, then Kase Whitehead let a punt slip through his hands on the first series the Herd had and UCF took control of a game that Marshall never really threatened in. In the first loss at Homecoming since 1992, the Herd falls for the fourth consecutive time to UCF, 30-14, in a game where the Herd lacked offense.

Marshall was written off for dead after a stunning loss at UAB. But the Herd rallied and beat Houston, 37-23, at home in a game that wasn't that close. Although the Herd fell to East Carolina in a game that went overtime, 19-16, Marshall can still obtain a number of goals. With two wins in the next three games, the Herd will be bowl eligible for on a Conference USA's six bowls, or win out for 7-5.

Marshall broke out green game helmets, broke out the best game of 2008 and broke a three-game losing streak by stopping Houston's streak of wins at three by beating the Cougars, 37-23. The Herd improved to 4-4 and is now 3-1 in C-USA play. MU will be in first place in the East Division all alone until at least Nov. 2, when East Carolina takes on 1-2 UCF on a Sunday night game in Orlando on ESPN.

Marshall had a huge jump in talent and ability in opposing players when the Herd left the Mid-American Conference and moved to Conference USA in 2005. It appears the Herd would not be ready for a jump to the Big East at this point in the Mark Snyder era as MU was again dominated by Cincinnati Bearcats on Friday night, 33-10. The Herd falls to 3-3, while UC improves to 4-1 on the year.
