Following a disappointing defeat in Pasadena last Saturday, The Bootleg's Greg Schindler waxes a bit poetic as he addresses the need for the Cardinal to put the frustrations of a tough loss behind them and bounce back with a string of stronger performances as they bounce back into a possible bowl berth.

The two-day MLB draft is complete with seven Cardinal players hearing their name called. Ace starting pitcher Greg Reynolds headlines the list with the selection at #2 overall to Colorado. It was a blockbuster weekend for Stanford Baseball, winning three straight games and taking the Austin Regional of the NCAA Tournament by storm. It was no surprise that the Cardinal claimed the lion's share of spots on the All-Tournament Team, with six players on the 11-man roster from the four-team regional. Stanford appears to be peaking at the right time. Sunday saw the Cardinal pound out 24 hits in a 17-7 victory over N.C. State to claim the Austin Regional championship. Stanford now advances to the super regionals where they'll meet Oregon State.

Conference honors were handed down today, and senior second baseman Chris Lewis was named Honorable Mention All Pac-10. A sit-down interview at the end of the regular season, his best as a collegian, is an affair where Lewis can smile.

Monday gave the Cardinal a big lift when they found out their at-large NCAA Tournament bid and #3 seed in the Austin Regional. Immediately afterward, 30-year head coach Mark Marquess talked with The Bootleg and local reporters about why he thought Stanford was selected, how the system can work against Western teams, the importance of pitching this weekend, the UC Davis losses, NC State, and more.

This could have been a dark day for Stanford Baseball, and for the Cardinal's seniors in particular. Following two unconscionable losses on Friday and Saturday, Stanford seriously sweated this morning's announcement of the 64-team NCAA Tournament field. Senior Chris Minaker celebrated with his teammates the Cardinal's #3 seed in the Austin Regional and afterward talked on a wide range of subjects.
