"On the Spot" w/ OT Derek Hall (#53)

The Bootleg's Special Partner Dave Fowkes had a chance to catch up with fifth-year senior offensive lineman Derek Hall, who is a strong candidate to fill the critical role at right tackle as the Cardinal puts together its remaining puzzle pieces for 2010. There are still a few more practices before the starting line-up gets solidified so this will be one of the key competitions to track!

Although the start of fall training camp is usually a time of great enthusiasm and excitement, there has been an air of sadness around the Stanford football program these past few days. As most Cardinal fans know by now, Bill Phillips, father of starting senior guard Andrew, passed away in a plane crash two nights ago.

In Stanford's bread-and-butter play, power, it's a guard who has arguably the toughest assignment: pull around the center, beat the defender to the point of attack, block him out of the way and make the play work. It stands to reason then that guard Andrew Phillips deserves as much credit as anyone for making Stanford's 2009 offense click, and Wyndam Makowsky sits down with him this week.

Day Six: Osaisai Returns

The Stanford cornerback corps has been nursing injuries this fall camp, which is cause for more than a little concern with the season opener less than three weeks away. Sunshine defeated those dark clouds late Saturday, however, with the surprise return of redshirt junior Wopamo Osaisai to the field. That fact alone is cause for excitement, but there are more layers to Osaisai's 2007 story.

Day Five: Frosh LBs in Focus

There will always be gaps between our expectations, no matter how well informed our scouting and intel may be, on Signing Day and the realities for freshmen when they put on pads in their first preseason camp. Friday's practice helped demonstrated that the surprise strength of Stanford's 2007 freshmen are the linebackers. Confirmation came in talking with LBs coach Andy Buh afterward.
