PULLMAN – It's a small group of graduating seniors for Washington State in 2013 and the question looms: Are there NFL-caliber prospects among them? If WSU's NFL Pro Day proved anything Thursday, it's that some Cougs will, at the least, be wild cards come draft day next month. Indeed, from this chair, the event was a raging success.

WASHINGTON STATE linebacker Alex Hoffman-Ellis went undrafted Saturday on the third and final day of the NFL draft and now awaits what figures to be an array of calls from teams looking to sign him as a free agent. He joins a group of fellow Cougs, none considered as draftable as Hoffman-Ellis, who now look to sign on as free agents.

LIKE A NUMBER OF TEAMS after the opener, the Cougars will step up in class in Game 2 of the 2011 season --- and they'll do so with a new captain of the ship. The defense will be charged with stopping a UNLV rushing attack that's gaining praise and the Wazzu o-line is expected to face a rush of oncoming Rebels looking to put pressure on both the Cougs' running backs and signal caller.
