Last July, in the Las Vegas Summer League, the Pelicans won their first 5 games before bowing out in the playoff semifinals. The young Pels squad, which featured the league's highest scorer & leading assist man, was exciting to watch. Seth Curry parlayed his 24.3 ppg into a deal with the Kings, while Larry Drew II took his 7.8 assists...back to the D-League via France. This summer, Drew is back with the Pels, and has a fantastic story about rookie Buddy Hield demanding the game winning shot.

Everyone agrees that Buddy Hield is one of the best long range shooters in basketball. But many folks can't agree if Hield will be an all-around NBA star player like Steph Curry or Klay Thompson, or more like Kyle Korver, who is basically just a 3-point specialist. Although it's nice to be compared to 3 players who have at least one All-Star Game appearance under their belt, Hield feels his shooting range is just as good as that trio...and so is his game. Without a 1st round pick the last three summers, even the hardest core of New Orleans Pelican fans found it tough to watch their team participate in the NBA Summer League. Not since Anthony Davis & Austin Rivers came into the league in 2012, has there been the type of excitement that is being generated this summer.
