When Alabama fans think about the players from the 2010 team who won't be back for 2011, the focus is on a handful of seniors and three or four possible junior defections; not so much on a guy who has been a two-year starter and a versatile player on offense and special teams.

The things that make some people happy. At Auburn, they did their toilet paper celebration (as only Auburn can do it) when famed Alabama Coach Paul Bryant died. Tennessee is happy to make a third down conversion. And the Crimson Tide has a football player who is happy that this week's opponent is showing improvement.

This week, Alabama will be making its first football trip to Duke. The game will be televised by ABC and the game announcer will be a woman, Beth Mowins, and having a female do play-by-play on Crimson Tide football is another first. As many accomplishments as there have been in Bama football, there is still room for "firsts."

There are Alabama football fans who can name the starting line-up of Crimson Tide teams going back years, or even decades. Even the best fans, though, will miss a few. It's sort of a trick question anyway, particularly in modern football where a team might start with four wide receivers, or maybe just one. Two tight ends, or maybe none. And so on.

Preston Dial looks like a football player. And following one practice last week, he looked like a football player who had come out on the short end of the scrimmage. Looks can be deceiving, though. The bloody nose was just a bad scrape, the result of Dial failing to buckle up his chin strap correctly.
