BayBears name Player of the Year awards

The Mobile BayBears, the San Diego Padres Double-A affiliate in the Southern League, announced its Player of the Year awards, awarding the Player of the Year, MVP, Pitcher of the Year, Most Popular Player, and Community Service Award.

Cassel no-hit over seven; Hopley starts

Jack Cassel tosses seven no-hit innings for Mobile. Tim Stauffer gets out of trouble with four double play grounders but takes loss number 11. Evan Meek took a tough loss. Fort Wayne gets contributions from everyone, including Mike Sansoe, Ray Chang and Nate Culp. Murray Hopley made his starting debut and Yefri Carvajal had a big day.

Seven runs in the first doomed Tim Stauffer, although Luke Carlin set a career high in RBI's. Stephen Smitherman is feeling grand for the BayBears. Nic Crosta is more than hot. Steve Delabar was firing on all cylinders. Brian Lauderdale did well subbing for an injured Matt Antonelli. Rayner Contreras led a 20-hit attack with four hits and five RBI's.

John Hudgins left his start early due to injury. Stephen Smitherman connects and adds another in the 11th frame. Tim Brown adds a homer and double to his resume while Josh Geer picks up win number one. Will Venable continues to rake and sits atop the leaderboard. Orlando Lara pitched well but Jon Kirby was rocked.
