NEW ORLEANS – Thomas Diamond had hoped to be pitching in the major leagues instead of at Triple-A six years after he was drafted with the 10th overall pick by the Texas Rangers out of the University of New Orleans in 2004. But an elbow injury and Tommy John surgery forced Diamond, now with the Cubs, to reinvent himself.

Iowa played its longest game of the season. Chris Carpenter turned in a solid start for Tennessee, but was a little wild. Brett Jackson continued his hot hitting while Dae-Eun Rhee overcame a rough start. Aramis Ramirez rehabbed in Peoria. Boise earned its first victory.

DES MOINES – Thomas Diamond spent last season in the Texas Rangers organization as a reliever after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2007. When the Cubs picked him up on September 4, 2009 after five years in the Rangers' system, he was moved back into the starting rotation at Class AAA Iowa for the start of the 2010 season.

Salt Lake City pitching put a halt to Iowa's win streak Monday despite another solid pitching performance from Thomas Diamond. Alberto Cabrera righted the ship in his third start at Tennessee. Chris Rusin turned in his best outing for Daytona. Matt Cerda's three hits paced Peoria's offense.

A pair of veterans led Iowa's offense, and Thomas Diamond finally got back in the win column. Not so for Hung-Wen Chen, who suffered his third straight loss for Tennessee. Chris Archer did not allow an earned run for the third straight start for Daytona. Trey McNutt turned in another solid start for Peoria.
