Mike and Mark Stoops are known for their great ability to coach defensive backs. Both have become known for putting defensive back after defensive back into the NFL and so far at Arizona they are continuing that path. In this week's Inside ‘The Unit', we will look at the defensive secondary of the Wildcats.

The Pac-10 returned to its wild-wild west days as all five winning teams scored at least 44 points. What made things wild is excluding WSU's 17 points against the Trojans, the other four teams averaged 30.1 points per game in losing efforts. So far, outside of USC, strong defense has been non-existent but that is primarily due to so many Pac-10 senior QBs running sophisticated offenses.

Coming into camp it was obvious that Cam Nelson was going to play somewhere. Strong safety and nickel were both options. Now that we are a week and a half away from the BYU game it looks like you can pencil Nelson in as the starting strong safety. We caught up with Nelson to discuss what he has to do to keep the job.

When injuries hit the defensive backfield a year ago, Cam Nelson was one of the guys who got a chance to shine. The true freshman saw time in every game, both as a back-up safety and as a special teams performer. This year he will have a chance to battle for a starting spot.

While Wildcat fans were worried about the lack of commitments, the staff was hard at work. They pulled in Cody Anderson two weeks back, but apparently had another commitment prior to that. The Cats landed a verbal commitment from a defensive back shortly after he made an unofficial visit.
