Former first rounder Jay Rainville, who drew comparisons to Roger Clemens early in his career, retired on Thursday. He informed New Britain Manager Tom Nieto of his decision this afternoon.

The New Britain Rock Cats did not have a bad month, finishing close to .500, as they got some great pitching throughout April. A bunch of the top hitting prospects they have on the roster are off to slow starts, but the staff has done it's best to keep them in the running in the Eastern League. If a couple guys get hot, they could easily get over .500 very quickly.

The New Britain Rock Cats delighted a midweek crowd of 6,482 by jumping out to an early 6-0 lead today over visiting Portland – before turning the game over to their bullpen corps - and sure-handed First Baseman – to secure the 6-4 victory at New Britain Stadium.

New Britain Drops Opener 7-4

The New Britain Rock Cats opened the Twins 2009 Minor League schedule on Wednesday, dropping an away game against New Hampshire 7-4. Starter Jeff Manship was touched early, and the team got strong efforts from Whitney Robbins and Joe Gaetti at the plate.
